Niagara Falls, Ontario, June 27th, 2014 – The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) is pleased to announce a full week of exciting events and activities which are to take place around the Canadian and U.S. Independence Day holidays. Join us over the next two weekends and enjoy the following –
Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer meet-and-greets begin Friday, June 27; be sure to bring your camera and meet an iconic symbol of Canada’s identity. An RCMP Officer will be at Table Rock Complex from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until August 31.
Fort Erie Friendship Festival – June 27 to July 1
The Fort Erie Friendship Festival kicks off on Friday June 27 and celebrates the 200 years of peaceful friendship between Canada and the USA. Events run until July 1, at Mather’s Arch Park in the Town of Fort Erie. Music, art showcases and kids’ activities will be ongoing over the five day festival.
ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE: During the Friendship Festival, there will be a road closure along the Niagara Parkway from Queen Street to Central Avenue. Detour signs will be located throughout the Town of Fort Erie to assist drivers.
NPC Coca-Cola Concert Series
The popular Coca-Cola Concert Series takes place at 8 p.m., on the Queen Victoria Park Stage. Be entertained by exciting new bands and enjoy a prime view of the fireworks displays at 10 p.m.

Friends of the Niagara Glen Clean-up Event – June 28
The Friends of the Niagara Glen group will be hosting a clean-up event in the Glen at 10 a.m. All are welcome to join and those wishing to take part are asked to meet at the entrance at the main access stairs. Those planning to spend the afternoon are encouraged to bring their own lunch, snacks and refillable water bottles. Proper footwear suitable for rugged terrain is required.
The Niagara Glen Nature Centre also hosts daily tours of the Niagara Glen area, from June 1 to August 1, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. These popular tours showcase the Niagara Glen area, the species, geological importance and heritage significance. Cost of the tour is $6.70 (excluding tax) per person and proper footwear is required.
Falls Fireworks during the Holidays
Spectacular fireworks displays will be launched on Tuesday, July 1 to mark Canada Day and on Friday, July 4 for Independence Day. Fireworks will also be displayed on Wednesday, July 2 and Sunday, July 6.
Canada Day at Laura Secord Homestead – July 1
Laura Secord Homestead will be celebrating Secord Day on July 1; celebrate Canada’s most well-known heroine of 1812. Laura Secord’s homestead will come to life with activities for the whole family. The homestead will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and free parking is available.
Old Fort Erie Ghost Tour – July 4
Old Fort Erie is hosting a spooky Ghost Tour on Friday, July 4. Tours start at 9 p.m. and are only $5.00 each. Be prepared to hear real ghost stories of those that still inhabit the historical site of Canada’s bloodiest battle.
One Love @ The Border Concert Series – July 4 to July 6
The newly constructed Grove area, located adjacent to NPC’s Floral Showhouse will host its inaugural event, One Love @ The Border; a collection of reggae, jazz and soul music featuring top entertainers. The event kicks off on July 4 at 4:30 p.m. and runs until July 6. Be sure to get your tickets by visiting: www.oneloveniagara.com.
Battle of Chippawa Re-enactment Weekend – July 5 to July 6
The Battle of Chippawa re-enactment weekend will begin on Saturday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m., when the public are invited to visit the British and American camps on the battlefield grounds. An official opening ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by the battle re-enactment at 2 p.m. On Sunday July 6, the battlefield grounds will then serve as the site for a re-enactment of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane, which took place on July 25, 1814.
Parking for the event is located at the Niagara Parkway entrance of Legends on the Niagara Golf Course. A looped shuttle service to the battlefield site will be provided by the WEGO Bus system, picking up visitors who have parked at Legends, as well as those who park within the Village of Chippawa, with a stop at Cummington Square.
