An Appeal To All Ontario Voters To Join Campaign To Stop Hudak

From Nick Fillmore and the ‘One Big Campaign’ movement

Dear Friends from Ontario,

One Big Campaign needs your financial support and the support of your friends and colleagues if we are to raise the funds needed to help stop Tim Hudak from becoming Premier of Ontario. The latest poll shows him tied with the Liberals!stop hudak

Please appeal to anyone you know in Ontario to have them go to our blog — http://one-big-campaign.blogspot.ca/ – and make a donation today so we can continue contacting voters across the province and urge them to vote against Hudak.

If you have access to an email list, a website, a blog or a Facebook page, please post some of the following information. Please use each of these stories at different times during the next three or four days. Please look for new places and new ways to post the appeals.

There’s lots of ammunition you can use:

This most recent poll has the Conservatives and Liberals tied. It also has the NDP increasing its popularity, which raises the serious threat of splitting the vote so Hudak could run through the middle:

This Globe and Mail story speaks for itself: Economists poke holes in Hudak’s job-creation plan.

This story is from our blog this May 28th:

URGENT APPEAL!

WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY SO WE CAN STOP TIM HUDAK!

Ontario is facing a dangerous situation. Many voters who normally support the two other main parties, the New Democrats and the Liberals, are very angry with their leadership. Right now, it’s impossible to predict who they will vote for. Opinion polls indicate that some 35 per cent of voters have not decided who they will support.

There’s also the danger of “vote splitting”, where the Conservatives could win seats with fewer votes than the total votes received by the opposition parties. If thousands of angry Liberal and New Democrats stay home on June 12, Tim Hudak could well win. – And you can bet the Conservatives will get out their vote!

Hudak must be stopped! Our campaign will tell people in strategic ridings which party has the best chance of beating the Conservative candidate. There are only a few days left for us to complete our campaigning. The more donations we receive the better we will be able to do our job.

  1. We need the private sector for the public sector to have government jobs. Right now, there are too many people doing the same created public job using tax payers money. Support the private sector for a sustainable and healthy province. It is going to take time to correct what the Liberals have done in the past. A campaign to stop conservative principles is bad for Ontario.

I remember Harris and that can never happen again to our social and educational system in Ontario.

A balanced view – fiscal and social – needs to be the way forward.

Provinces are responsible by the constitution for our social responsibilities and the provincial conservatives cannot be that by way of their mandate.

Hudak majored in economics for one reason – to become rich. How? Living off the public teat all of his life & kissing up to anyone who could ensure him a secure future during & after politics. If he loves the private sector so much, why hasn’t he worked in it? Do as I say, not as I do. If he’s so intent with cutting public servants & bureaucracy, I suggest he start with himself.
His parents were teachers, you know, like those he wants to cut back on. Of course they’re now retired so no sweat to them.
Go to the US & learn the tea party doctrine & – voila – there’s little Timmy Hudak. Right to work – for minimum wage. Freebies to big industry – the “job creators” that out source & give their CEO’s millions in bonuses. Select a few scapegoats & make them reviled to get votes. I hope he gets blown out of the water & the sooner the better.

  4. I’ve never been able to comprehend the hows and whys of Conservative leaders being regarded as anathema, so much so that there are collectively massive negative publicity schemes directed to impede their success. It happened with PM Stephen Harper, the best national leader we’ve had in decades, and now we see the paranoia over Tim Hudak’s possibility of actually winning this provincial election. Well, the world of politics in general is a pretty murky field, where it is tough in even ideal times to find one who would truly represent we the people with sincerity and integrity. True enough, they are often “in it for themselves”, as are most people, anywhere. That can also be said of union bosses and corporate leaders. Still, we’d like to look beyond the personal profiles to expose something of substance, something other than “talking the talk, but not walking the walk”… No one is exempt from criticism, and certainly no political party nor any individual representative or leader has all the answers. But, I believe that the P.C.’s give us our only option of getting Ontario back on its feet. What alternative is there? If we don’t give this a conscientious effort, then we deserve to go down the tubes via the deception and continued folly demonstrated by the Liberals. The NDP is trying to steer to the Right, away from them, but it is too little and too late. Even if Hudak’s P.C.’s make it in, there is the dire probability of a coalition of Libs and Dips being formed against them, since in all likelihood there will not be a Majority. The misguided spread of disdain for Mr. Hudak does absolutely nothing positive for the future of Ontario.

The spread of disdain for Hudak is NOT “misguided”. The guy has never held a real job in his life. He is a Republican Tea Party wanna be. I was told by a trustworthy friend he briefly “worked” with, of course on a cushy summer PUBLIC SERVICE job, the kind he supposedly disdains so much, that he spent most of his time on the computer trying to find out where he could get more government grants & freebies. Such “freebies” & public service jobs are OK for him, just not for anyone else. He climbs the ladder & then pulls it up after him so nobody else can use it. Very ethical indeed.

Harper is certainly not the “best national leader we’ve had in decades”. If anything he is the worst. He is, like Hudak, a big business, privatization advocate who has gutted environmental programmes, is diligently promoting a shitty two tier health care system (pray you don’t get sick!), cutting payments for science & education….need I go on. Oh, not to mention his numerous scandals among his own appointees to the Senate & personal assistant posts.

Both are part of the Bay Street Bullies & no better for Canada & the average Canadians than the Krotch (Koch) Brothers are in the US.

  7. A couple of the people above have the only sensible responses I have seen here (Karen and Robert). Ontario cannot afford more spending of money we don’t have, debt, buying of votes (see the gas plant cancellations). The MPP in my area has been in office 37 years, and is opposed this election by a TEACHER, who is obviously not buying into the vilification of conservative leaders, which is a typical strategy of so-called “progressives”. I have believed for a long time this word only refers to progressive taxation, progressive debt, progressive government growth, and so on. One of the heads of a public service union, Smokey Thomas, has himself stated the public service could do without some 60,000 staff. Don’t believe for a moment that a conservative government will immediately “fire” 100,000 government workers, this could be done in two to three years through attrition (retirement, leaving for other work).
It would be unbelievable if Ontarians re-elect this government after all the wastage and lying.
Just prior to producing this note, I completed a telephone survey by this organization One-Big-Campaign who did not identify themselves as to what their politics were, so being interested in that checked this site, and realized they were/are probably an association of public service workers or an arm of the Working Peoples Coalition. At least the parties themselves identify who they are when calling.

  8. Linda Thank you for your ideals and words of wisdom
I truly believe the “NEW” Conservative Platform was formulated in Washington by the Republican Tea Party goons for I truly don’t think Hudak has the intellect to putting together such an odious formula of cuts and claw backs designed to screwing the Blue Collared People of this Province while enriching the coffers of corporations whose cash on hand is already enormous. Please allow me……A couple of Quotes by respected :Gentlemen”
    Ralph Nader
“It matter NOT which party you vote for Democrat (Liberal) or Republican(Conservative) for they are BOTH Corporate owned and controlled parties who will cater to the demands of Corporations”

And our esteemed son of Canada Economist the late John K. Galbraith:
    I quote”
“THE MODERN CONSERVATIVE IS ENGAGED IN MAN’S OLDEST EXERCISE IN MORAL PHILOSOPHY: THAT IS,
THE SEARCH FOR A SUPERIOR MORAL JUSTIFICATION FOR SELFISHNESS”

These were his words while assisting President Roosevelt
steer the country out of “THE GREAT DEPRESSION” Caused by DEREGULATION, GREED AND PHONEY ENTITLEMENTS ENACTED FOR AND BY THE 1% ers

It seems you Ontario Conservatives want an American Republican styled government in Ontario and if Hudak is elected that is exactly what you will get…and then PRIVATIZATION will begin in earnest….It seems that is what?? you want…..You should read a book by David Orchard called “The Fight for Canada” for In Early History it was the “Progressive” Conservative Governments that fought to keep Canada a Sovereign Nation and now it seems it does not matter as long as you control. Therefore I believe Galbraith seen the handwriting on the proverbial Wall.

  9. Thank-you, G. Littleton, for your insights and the revelation of an obvious schism in opinions here. I was unaware of the magnitude of resentment for common sense and responsible fiscal management right here in our own locality. I won’t bang on about it, as it’s all been thought and said before, but it never ceases to amaze me when I repeatedly witness the hyper-reactionary paranoia of Left spectrum idealists. There are a lot of good people who’ve never had a “real” job, and there are a lot of people who hold “real” jobs and don’t work. Personally, I was out of work for almost 3 years, through no fault of my own (at least that’s what my therapist would tell me, if I had one), and am very thankful to be in the service sector, as a grateful refugee from the almost non-existent manufacturing sector. As for “image”, I would take PM Harper over any national leader we’ve had since Pearson. “If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Chrétien, you aren’t going to make it with anyone anyhow….” (The Beatles’ “Revolution”, sort of)

  10. After years of hearing and seeing this Left vs Right syndrome I find that I have fallen into the trap of using that type of Dialogue myself ….thus…… Tell me Mr.Trip or Mr. Singleton, to you guys what is Right and what the hell is Left when it comes to squeezing the dollar bill to make ends meet?
Does the Right have the buck and to hell with the Seniors who as Mr. Trip pointed out have not had the advantage of higher education of a family that can assure him or her of a Position(Not necessarily a job)
Most of the multi millionaires in this country vote Conservative or Liberal and I ask you to explain this? Are they protecting their monetary interests or what???? Is/was it wrong to be an iron worker, a welder, a pipe fitter or even a journalist who worked to feed, cloth and house a family. Why do you give the impression that you are the only one that counts and that it is either your way or the highway. I worked in a Steel Mill (not Atlas) and the people who worked under my supervisor were treated with respect and dignity which is exactly what I earned from them by being honest and fair minded in my dealing with them.
When I hear you speak the word “Left” it is as if you are speaking to a lout, a person with nothing to offer to the world except sweat…and no brains.
My next door neighbor? I don’t honestly know if he is Catholic, Protestant or Atheist and I don’t really care…we are friends because we care about each other welfare and isn’t that what it is all about.
Looking out for each other in an unselfish manner…So Please……..

  11. If you think I’m the one doing the labeling and name-calling, have a glance at Linda McKellar’s derogatory jabs in her post. I have the utmost respect for the conscientious and hard-working people of this nation and province, and I’m also proud to say that I also did 25 years of devoted factory work before the bottom dropped out. You hit the nail on-the-head with the proper attitude of helping and caring for others, regardless of their belief systems and political preferences. This is a major part of what elevates us above the animals, and especially the political animals. Carry on….
