NIAGARA REGION, July 11, 2013 – Robert Mahony is the 2013 recipient of the T. Roy Adams Humanitarian Award for his contribution to improving the lives of others.

“The annual T. Roy Adams Humanitarian Award is a wonderful opportunity to recognize true commitment and dedication to volunteerism and humanitarianism in the Niagara region of Ontario.
”Mr. Mahony has made a lasting impact on his community over the years and truly exemplifies the honourable qualities as remembered of the late Roy Adams,” said Regional Chair Gary Burroughs.
Mahony has contributed to enriching the lives of others by volunteering countless hours of his time and energy to numerous community organizations:
- As a member of the Education Foundation of Niagara, (EFN) which provides funding for special projects to enhance the curriculum for students in the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), he was instrumental in organizing the EFN annual Golf Tournament which he co-chaired in 2012. He was also Chair of the DSBN Employees/Family Golf Tournament fundraiser
- In 1995, he became a member of the St. Catharines Rotary Club AM, and in 2002 he was elected club president and then served as assistant governor for the 7090 Rotary district governor. He has twice received the clubs highest award, the “Paul Harris Fellow.”
- He served four times as Chairman of the Rotary Club’s Wine Tasting /Silent Auction, using his own home to receive, store, catalogue and distribute auction items, raising in excess of $80,000 for various charities in the community
- Mahony was involved for 10 years with the Parent Council of Westdale Elementary and West Park High schools. He was an active fundraiser and instrumental in getting a new playground.
- He volunteered for five years on the City of St. Catharines Mayor’s Arena Committee as well as the fundraising committee which raised two million dollars for the four pad arena.
- He was a member of the pool design committee at the Kiwanis Aquatic Centre of St. Catharines.
- He served on Niagara Region’s Accessibility Committee
- In the early 1990s he helped coach minor league soccer and baseball

The late T. Roy Adams. Mr. Adams served on Regional Council as mayor of St. Catharines from 1976 to 1985 and as a Regional councillor from 1988 to 2002.
