Celebrate Drinking Water Week In Niagara, Ontario

A Submission from Niagara’s Regional Government

NIAGARA REGION, May 6, 2013 –  May 5 through May 11 is Drinking Water Week, an opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognition of the vital role water plays in our daily lives.drinking water week

For the second year in a row, Niagara Region’s water and wastewater services has partnered with the City of Niagara Falls and the Ontario Water Works Association to run a Drinking Water Week campaign across the region. The campaign focuses on celebrating our tap water and the importance of protecting this valuable resource at its source.

Niagara residents turn on the tap every day, but few actually know how this water gets there. We are fortunate in Niagara to be situated between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, two abundant sources of freshwater, but this doesn’t mean we can be careless with our actions. Residents are called to learn more about their water – where it comes from, how it’s treated, how it gets to the tap and the measures that Niagara Region is taking to protect it.

In 2006, Ontario passed the Clean Water Act, designed to ensure safe drinking water for Ontario residents from ‘source to tap’ by protecting them from unwanted impacts or contaminants. The Niagara Peninsula Source Protection Committee, assisted by Niagara Region, has developed a draft Source Protection Plan which has been submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and is currently going through the review process. Upon final approval, Niagara Region will work with area municipalities to begin implementing these new policies.

The Region works with Niagara’s 12 area municipalities to deliver safe and reliable drinking water year-round. Throw enough chlorine (carcinogen) into any water and you can make it drinkable. (sort of)
No wonder that cancer is running rampant in this region. Atta boys – keep up the good work and don’t hurt yourself patting your own backs.
    Just sayin…..
