– Sign Federal Green Party Leader Elizabeth May’s Petition BeforeIt Is Too Late!
A Note from Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper
As soon as this Thursday, November 1, Canada’s Neo-Conservative prime minister, Stephen Harper will try to use the majority government far less than half of Canadians gave him last year to sign a trade agreement with Communist China that could seal our countries fate when it comes to however much control we still have left over protecting our environment and finite natural resources.
![Harper-china-5[1]](https://niagaraatlarge.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/harper-china-51.jpg?w=300&h=269)
Canadian Prime Minister sells our country down the Yangtze River to the same thugs that slaughtered Chinese students on Tiananmen Square and continues to jail environmental activists.
What is disturbing is how few Canadian political leaders and other bodies, including the country’s media chains – all of them in a position to warn citizens across the country about the dangers of this agreement – have bothered to do so even though this boulder has been rolling down the slope for months now. They and the cultures of citizens they have been pandering to have had far more to say about an NHL lockout which, lets face it, has at least kept multi-million-dollar role models for the word kind of bloody, non-sportsperson-like behaviour off of our television screens.
So thank goodness that at least Elizabeth May – the leader of Canada’s Green Party and the only member of that party now holding a seat in federal parliament – has urged you to sign a petition against this sell-out agreement between Harper’s Neo-Conservative government and China’s Communist nationalists before it is too late.
Quite realistically, it may be too little too late given that Harper is anxious to sign this monstrosity of an agreement the day after Halloween – this November 1 – at the behest of his high-end corporate friends in the tar sands. It is an agreement that, among other things, will allow the Chinese government to use all the resources at its disposal to sue Canada for any move we make as a country to interfere with making profits on investments in resources it makes here. In other words, if we move to uphold or strengthen any policies or laws that drive domestic economic or energy policies that may benefit Canadians, or uphold or strengthen any regulations for protecting our environment and the health of people and other living beings in our country, and if the Chinese government believes that those steps interfere with the exploitation of resourses Harper and his cronies are allowing it to buy up here, the Chinese government will then sue our country for protecting our national interests.

Canada’s prime minister may be a coward in the face of powerful Chinese interests. But let the rest of us show some of the courage as that young Chinese student did, who stood in front of those tanks in Tiananmen Square, and sign this petition and call on our MPs as soon as possible to stop this Harper agreement that would destroy our right to have a say over our country’s natural resources.
Perhaps, we should collectively be asking the neo-conservatives and libertarians that supporter the Harper government for no other reason that it is singing their ant-government, tax-cutting tune, why aren’t they concerns about the possibility of our country’s independence or sovereignty being buried by an agreement like this? Would these neo-cons rather see our country being sold off to corporations owned and operated by an out-of-country, communist state?
Niagara At Large is posting a link below to the petition Green Party leader Elizabeth May is hoping as many Canadians as possible will sign. And please sign it as soon as possible since it is possible that in the not too distant future, younger generations will be asking us what we said or did, if anything, when Harper sold what is left of Canada as a proud country with values that include protecting our vital natural resources to foreign nation with a proven record of environmental and human rights neglect.

This corporate empowerment deal is a serious assault on our sovereignty and on what’s left of our democracy.
Please consider this e-mail action for tomorrow.

It’s actually quite disgraceful that Canadians don’t know more about this, but of course that’s the way Harper wants it.

I am very disappointed with Harper on this and the possibility that also the CNOOC deal will be approved.. Additionally, I am extremely disappointed with Dean Allison as I have written to him on this on several occasions and didn’t even get an automatic acknowledgement.
I guess Dean is too busy doing what it is that he does. By the way does anyone know what that is?
The Chinese government is not the government you want to do deals like this with. I trust them as far as I can throw them. Lead in toys, poison in baby food, they treat their own citizens like trash, they produce trash (I won’t buy Chinese products unless it is something like wicker) they treat their own country like trash and they try to hack our government computer networks.
China was until recently (couple of decades) hostile to the democratic world. What does Stephen think….. they had an epiphany? The same military politicians are still in power! Guess they are taking a different tack in this battle.
Sadly, just sayin…….

Money does not have a conscience and it seems MONEY has become the “GOD” to the so called elite of the free (Choke) world. The gap widens and it is dictatorial governments like Canada’s that helps corruption grow as an infestation of greed engulfs the world.
Just this morning I was enraged when a gentleman speaking to me began with “Your PRIME MINISTER ” I immediately interupted and corrected him stating “HE IS NOT MY PRIME MINISTER -never was and never WILL HE BE.
