Wishing You A Happy Canada Day And Fourth Of July

As  residents on both sides of the Niagara River in our greater Niagara region celebrate Canada Day and the Fourth of July on the first long weekend of summer, Niagara At Large wishes everyone peace and happiness.

This photo of the Peace Bridge at night was submitted to Niagara At Large by Terry Tong, a resident and avid photographer in the Buffalo, New York area.

We also wish to thank  NAL’s many supporters on both sides of the border, and in other regions of the world, and we encourage you to invite all of your friends and associates to visit this independent news and commentary site, subscribe to it and if you have an idea for news or commentary that you feel out be of interest to our readers for posting here, please send your idea for a post to NAL publisher Doug Draper at drapers@vaxxine.com.

Thanks again for continuing to visit Niagara at Large at www.niagaraatlarge.com .

One response to “Wishing You A Happy Canada Day And Fourth Of July

  1. Happy Canada Day and Fourth of July to you, Doug, and to all subscribers to NAL!. We have two opportunities here. First, to celebrate living in one of the finest countries in the world, its freedoms — watch we don’t lose them! — its beauty — watch we don’t destroy it — and the diversity of its people — remembering especially our indigenous neighbors. Second, to celebrate living next to a great neighbor. Yes, sometimes they frustrate us, but to think we have lived over two hundred years peacefully, and in so many ways we are alike.

On a personal level, I am proud to be a Canadian and so celebrate July 1. In particular remembering the 1967 celebration and the party atmosphere at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto as thousands danced around the Square and in the fountain!

July 4, however, even as a Canadian has a special meaning beyond the recognition of our neighbor’s anniversary as a nation. Seventeen years ago that day, my friend received one of my kidneys. We are both alive and well and can celebrate July 1 and 4 joyfully! If I could give my other kidney I would. I have signed on as an organ and tissue donor in any event.

Please, if you haven’t done so yet, register online to be an organ and tissue donor. Just click on http://www.ontario.ca/en/services_for_residents/ONT05_039074.html, or search “organ donation Ontario”. You could save a life! There is a saying in some circles, “Don’t take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them down here.”

Every major faith group supports organ donation. Why not you?

Three cheers for continued friendship between Canada and the United States of America.
