Former Niagara Health System CEO Lands On Her Feet – How About You?

A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

Well, well, well, and what a surprise.

The elites among us always seem to find a way of landing on their feet, don’t they?

Former NHS CEO Debbie Sevenpifer lands new job in the GTA

The rest of us 99 per centers can lose our jobs, simply because someone with a Mitt Romney brain decided that the cost of having us on the job was standing in the way of shareholders’ dividends,  but the Debbie Sevenpifers of this world always seem to find a way of landing on their feet.

I credit my friends at Bullet News for getting the exclusive on this one. This May 12, that online reported that Debbie Sevenpifer, who was the CEO of Niagara, Ontario’s Niagara Health System during a period when it lost an unprecedented amount of trust from the public, is heading to Toronto for a job as the chief executive officer of one of the GTA’s largest community institutions – the YMCA.

Sevenpifer was in charge of the Niagara Health System when the disastrous decision was made to locate the only new hospital this region may receive provincial funding for this half of the 21st century in west St. Catharines rather than in a more central location in the Niagara region her health system was supposed to serve. She was there during the design more than three years ago of a so-called “hospital improvement plan” that will see most of the region’s acute care services sucked north, into that new hospital. She was there for the closing of the only two emergency rooms in the region’s south end, and she was there through morale issues that had doctors and nurses speaking out public about how toxic it has been working for this health system.

Then this past winter, a year after the NHS finally parted ways with her, she shows up on the annual “sunshine list” for public salary disclosures with a salary/buy-out totaling more than $600,000 for the year 2011. And now she is going to assume a senior executive position with the YMCA in the GTA.

Like I say, these people have a way of landing on their feet in a Dalton McGuinty land that undoubtedly favours the rich and privileged, don’t they? And as much as these elites often tout the private sector over government as the answer to all of our wows, they find a job with a public agency that jacks them way high up their job on the public doll. No trully-in-need welfare recipient could ever hope for that kind of big-buck treatment.

Then again, when you think of it, Sevenpifer will be working in territory that is now under the occupation of that clown mayor of Toronto, that nut bar Rob Ford. So maybe, in a ‘Mad Magazine’  sort of way, it all makes sense.

At least she is leaving this region of Ontario, and good riddance!!!

Glad I’m not a YMCA Member although we can be forced to donate to them through our taxes such as happened in Pelham a few years ago – what a bunch of crap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Years ago, many years ago as a young boy growing up in very poor and unsophisticated family in Charlottetown P.E.I. I used to visit the local YMCA at Christmas hoping that even though I was Catholic they just might allow me admission to a fabulous Christmas Dinner they were holding for the poor WASP folk. But as soon as they realized I was Catholic their faces hardened and I along with other “poor’ Catholic children were turned away. Do I have bitterness No only I do not support them of their causes for I am still not a WASP.
We in Welland support them also through our taxes and we should not be doing this anymore than we should be supporting Niagara College with $50,000 a year for five years but then again Mr. Sharpe worked and Damian Goulbourne still works at this college when this was approved by their “A” Team. We recently also gave the college over $200,000 from our Welland Hydro Coffers and both of these people are on the Board of Directors of the Hydro.
