I’m Gambling On Both Niagara Falls, Ontario Casinos Staying Open

A Brief Comment by Doug Draper

I’ve never been much of a gambler but I’m willing to bet right now that the Ontario government has decided to keep both casinos on the Canadian side of the Falls open.

Why am I willing to place that bet? Because earlier this March 15, the office of Kim Craitor, the Liberal government MPP for Niagara Falls, released a notice to the media that Craitor will be at Casino Niagara this Friday, March 16 to make an announcement about Casino Niagara, which is the older of the two casinos in the Honeymoon City and the one most likely to close.

With emotions still raw in the Fort Erie end of Craitor’s riding over the Liberal’s decision to close the Slots facility there at the end of April, I am assuming that the Niagara Falls MPP would not want to be caught within five blocks of the Niagara River gorge, let alone right across the street from it, if he was there to announce the closing of one of the casinos. That’s this reporter’s bet anyway. Nothing much left to do now but  see how the dice roll.

  1. What is lost on me is the Why? don’t those bureaucrats in the government understand that the whole world is suffering the worst economic meltdown in seventy years even Las Vegas is hurting and Atlantic City ,after chasing the bingo hall customers and the smokers from the casiinos and slots they are complaining that the Americans are not coming over, like they used too.these people who get government money have never lived in the real world.and still don’t get it, how does firing 200 people plus hundreds of support people ,taxis ,supply of services, helps the economy.? three Slot locations impacted NOTL Niagara Falls and Fort Erie was designated Tourism and Recreational by the Bill Davis Government of 1972 These people should be put in a strait jacket and carted to a hospital back in Toronto as they have closed ours down.

  2. I agree with you Doug and another reason for assurance is the govt. signed a lease for $10 million for 15 years last fall for the casino, with no early release clause. Even they wouldn’t be so stupid as to sign a long term lease and then turn around and cancel out and forfeith $150 mill…..would they?
