“Give me love, give my life, give me peace on earth.”
– Lyrics by George Harrison
For those of us who grew up on The Beatles, but even if we didn’t, he was one of the great ones. He was known to so many as the ‘the quiet one’.![GeorgeHarrison[1]](https://niagaraatlarge.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/georgeharrison1.jpg?w=290&h=300)
George Harrison always had to work harder to live up to the song writing wonders of his mates, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who continue to go down as one of the greatest song-writing teams of the past 50 years. And he did it!
Through such great songs as ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘Something’ and ‘As My Guitar Gently Weeps’, George put himself in the same regal company as anyone else who wrote songs that any of the greatest, from Frank Sinatra to any of the other greatest musicians from the [past half century would sing or play
George Harrison died 10 years ago this late November and for those of us who loved George Harrison’s music and the kindness for the world he stood for, this is a time to sit for a few moments and remember. George was a person of peace.
Bless you George and that great opening chord – some of us are still trying to figure it out – at the start of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’.
Niagara At Large will get back to local issues but post your view on this one below.
George was always my “favourite” Beatle and now I realize that he was a man of depth…his songs display this very well. He certainly exemplafied peace and love and belief in more than the material things in life…
Amazing to think how fast 10 years goes by…I remember that day well…

Another great one gone. Has it really been ten years? I recently picked up his Greatest Hits CD. Here was a talented bloke. A brilliant songwriter, ardent humanitarian, ethical vegetarian. I read somewhere that his last words were: “Love one another.” The world needs more people like George. I think the world is a colder place without him.

George did have a lot of song writing competition with his band mates but produced some beautiful and meaningful works. He also had a fabulous, wry sense of humour that was often overshadowed by John’s abrasive and witty comments and Paul’s “cuteness”.
When I get tired of these long, dreary winter days, “Here comes the Sun” always makes me smile. To this day I, and many others are still major fans. I don’t think much of today’s music can touch theirs. Today’s is all formulatic with a dozen dancers behind so you don’t realize it’s all the same.
