The Winter Festival of Lights is already well known for adding a twinkle to Niagara Falls in the winter, and The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) is adding new and exciting attractions to the traditional lighting displays.
The centerpiece of this winter showcase will be the Victorian Candy Land at Queen Victoria Place with its vintage winter carousel overlooking the Falls, placed amid a glistening display of seasonal décor prepared by the Niagara Parks garden design team. Families will also have a chance to make their own s’mores over an open fire.
“Niagara Parks invites everyone to experience and enjoy our all-new Victorian Candy Land,” says NPC’s Interim Chair Janice Thomson. “It is further proof that the fun and exciting things to do in Niagara do not end with the warm weather. We are truly an all-season destination.”
A whimsical Snowflake Honour Guard will oversee your way across the “Bridge of Flowers” pedestrian bridge to nearby Table Rock, which is being transformed into an elegant Ice Castle complete with a tall white Christmas tree decorated with white and blue effects.
Within the Ice Castle remains the great Niagara Parks attractions Journey Behind the Falls and Niagara’s Fury. Use the Niagara Magic Pass to get access to these fun family experiences, as well as NPC’s Butterfly Conservatory, where you will be able to escape the chilly temperatures.
“There is lots to see and do in Niagara in the winter,” says Thomson. “It’s a great place to bring the family and get into the spirit of the holidays.”
The Victorian Candy Land is open to the public on Saturday, November 19. Hours of operation are as follows: Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.; and daily from December 26 to January 8, 2012 from noon to 8 p.m.
The Niagara Parks Commission, an Agency of the Government of Ontario since 1885, operates to protect the natural and cultural heritage along the Niagara River for the enjoyment of visitors while remaining financially self-sufficient.
