News from Niagara, Ontario’s Riverbrink Museum
Italy’s scandalous and extravagant Marchesa di Casati known throughout Europe for her bizarre behavior and outrageous wardrobe, held lavish balls for which she had designed extraordinary costumes.
One such costume was the famous Fountain Dress, now re-created by costumier, Pam Mundy, for the RiverBrink Art Museum Gala Fundraiser “Primarily Porter” which is being held at Konzelmann’s Estate Winery on Monday, August 3rd.
This special evening will start with canapes and sparkling wine on the lawns of Konzelmann Estate Winery at the edge of Lake Ontario.
Following a four course dinner, served under a tent and catered by Niagara Gourmet Caterers and Willow Café, accompanied by the finest of wines from Konzelmann, there will be a very special Cabaret Show designed for this event.
Four of Toronto’s finest cabaret and musical theatre performers, Marilyn Lightstone, Gabi Epstein, Lawrence Cotton and Musical Director David Warrack are lending their talents to a scintillating new entertainment celebrating the words and music of the great American songwriter Cole Porter.
Marilyn Lightstone has had a long and distinguished career in theatre, film and television, including her indelible portrait of Miss Stacey in Anne of Green Gables. Dora Award nominee Gabi Epstein is one of the brightest lights among the younger stage performers and will be taking the lead role in Funny Girl, to be directed by Peter Hinton, in Montreal in October. Baritone Lawrence Cotton is well-known for his performances with the Canadian Opera Company and musical theatres across Canada.
For this performance, Jeremy Carver James, now in his fourth season with the Shaw Festival, will make a special guest appearance.
Included in this Cabaret will be Tableaux Vivants of some of the famous portraits of Augustus John including his famous portrait of the Marchesa di Casati which is in the permanent collection of the Ontario Gallery of Art. The show will end with The Fountain Dress modelled by Sarie Marais.
The grand finale will be a special appearance on the lake of the Niagara Belle.
Tickets are $150 with tax receipt for the maximum amount allowed by law. Funds raised will be used for the creation of a dedicated space for community education programs at the museum.
