A Brief Comment by Doug Draper
One might imagine Canada’s Tar Sands prime minister Stephen Harper wanting to ring their necks.
Put another way, I doubt we’ll be facing the spectacle of tone-deaf Harper sitting down in front of a piano any time soon and butchering songs by Neil Young and Willie Nelson the way he has butchered song by The Beatles. Fortunately, Neil and Willie are lining up for a place on a Stephen Harper shit list that will spare them that indignity.
This is all to say that I can’t take a little break from Niagara At Large this late August without posting a high five to two of my favourite rebel troubadours for getting together and doing a concert on farmland in the U.S. state of Nebraska this coming September to raise funds to fight a Keystone pipeline that would carry tar sands shit from northern Alberta down to refineries along the American Gulf Coast.
The Neil Young/Willie Nelson Keystone XL pipeline protest concert will take place this September 27th on a farm in Nebraska that this poisonous snake of a pipeline would desecrate e, if Harper’s corporate friends and party toddies get their way, and it is already sold out. Tickets were sold for a generous $50 to see these two musical icons and all proceeds are going to citizen efforts in the United States to defeat Harper’s toxic pipe.
Good for Neil Young and Willie Nelson for joining together on this and let’s hope for the sake trying to save what is left of a healthy environment for present and future generations that U.S. President Barack Obama says no to this Canadian abomination.
It is sad, by the way, that so many Canadians are not standing up against a federal government that has gutted the budgets and weakened rules and enforcement of agencies like Environment Canada, Transit Canada, Health Canada and other raped and now castrated federal agencies. Harper’s willingness to gut federal oversight in these areas is playing out in events like the deadly train disaster in Quebec last year and the mining tailing spill that is polluting vital waters in British Columbia right now.
So why should anyone take this government’s word that moving tar sands crud in pipes is safe?

Lawrence Martin’s book “Harperland” covered many aspects of Harper, his mania for complete control regardless of the COST and regardless of the damage being done to the citizens of NOT ONLY Canada but of the whole world.
He and his alter ego Baird run around the world as if they are the resurrection of Pierre Elliot but as soon as they start their rants the dye is cast. “THEY ARE NO TRUDEAU”
Canada NOW finds itself second from the last in the environmental ranking of Countries of the world and this is or should be a wake up call to the onetime caring peoples of Canada.
My son, who lives and works in the oil industry in Alberta, said during a very recent conversation that “FRACKING” is a very unstable form of extraction, especially since there is really no uniform mixture and control over the chemical ingredients used to rupture the shale.
The Enbridge rupture and huge catastrophic spill of “DILBIT” into Michigan’s Kalamazoo River is after three years still in the cleanup phase while being duly classified as the single worst oil spill in the history of interior of the U.S.A.
This pipeline, 37 years old is similar in construction and structural integrity as the one the Canadian National Energy Board (puppet) has given the green light to for the transportation of Albert Tar Sand Sludge by the Oil Cartel across the top and through the Great Lakes water shed basin to Quebec.
An recognized expert in pipeline construction with access to the data concerning the line that ruptured in Michigan and this similar Line 9 has already concluded this is a disaster in the making Yet no one will listen…
Maybe with American Pressure especially Willie Nelson’s and Canadian Niel Young together there will be reasoning used instead of looking to the bottom line on a profit and loss statement.
We have people here in the Niagara region who write articles in the local newspapers, articles that look like they have been written by the Oil Cartel and they make light of the pending disaster.
Thank You Doug and thank you Willie Nelson and Neil Young and I do hope wisdom will prevail.
