Niagara Action for Animals Erects Billboard In Run Up To Welland Exhibition Grounds Rodeo Show

News from the Niagara, Ontario citiziens group Niagara Action For Animals

As an organization dedicated to advocating for animals, Niagara Action for Animals (NAfA) is very concerned about rodeos.

To highlight those concerns, we’ve arranged to have a billboard erected on Niagara Street in Welland (Ontario), just south of the Welland Exhibition Grounds where a rodeo is scheduled to take place. The billboard will be in place until August 18th.

The whole rodeo industry is problematic as animals are transported to & from various venues and are compelled to participate in events like bareback riding, saddle riding and bull riding.

We are opposed to rodeo because rodeo events involve the use of fear, stress or pain to make animals perform.

There is also considerable risk of injury or death for the animals. These risks and the suffering the animals endure are especially unacceptable, given the unnecessary and frivolous nature of rodeo as entertainment.

Further, rodeos reinforce the notion that animals are ‘things’, toys for human amusement without lives and feelings of their own. As animal advocates, we know this is not so.  It’s time to leave rodeos behind with the games of ancient Rome.

Dr. Peggy Larson, an American veterinarian and outspoken animal advocate, has stated: “Without torture, there can be no rodeos.  In my oopinion, and based on my extensive training and experience, it is impossible to create a humane rodeo.”

In addition to the billboard, NAfA will be holding a peaceful demonstration prior to the rodeo on August 29th outside the exhibition grounds.

Niagara Action for Animals is a non-profit, all volunteer charity devoted to ending all forms of animal cruelty through education, direct action and legitimate protest.  Nothing contained in this email is intended to encourage or incite illicit acts.  Please let us know (by return email) if you no longer wish to receive these email alerts.

One response to “Niagara Action for Animals Erects Billboard In Run Up To Welland Exhibition Grounds Rodeo Show

  1. The rodeo is part of the cultural heritage of the old west. It is a relatively ‘new world’ experience and does not rival at all the ancient barbaric contests displayed for the selfish delight of upper-echelon attendees at the Roman Coliseum. I am neither a doctor of veterinary medicine nor a cowboy, but again I find the protesting and negativity regarding rodeo events as being over-reactionary to a relatively minor issue. True enough… It is impossible to create a humane rodeo. If it somehow could be, it would not be an authentic rodeo in the traditional sense. Just my oopinion…
