Another Message From An Embattled Ontario Premier

From the Office of Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne

(A Brief Note from Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper – Note that Wynne views, posted below, define this election as a fight between her minority Liberal government and Tim Hudak’s Conservatives. The third place NDP party of Andrea Horwath is so low in the polls at the moment, it hardly factors into the equation here.)

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne

On June 12th , the people of our province will have a choice – a choice between safe hands and risky tactics.
It’s a choice between the balanced approach of a Liberal government that will create jobs and nurture our economic recovery and the opposition parties, who would put that recovery in jeopardy with reckless schemes and irresponsible choices.I believe there is only one good reason to get into politics – you do it to help people. And you do that by making government a force for good in people’s lives.
Please read my speech announcing the election for June 12th. We are proud to be running on the budget we presented to the people of Ontario yesterday. Only Ontario Liberals have a plan to build opportunity and secure Ontario’s future. Ontario Liberals are committed to:

  • Investing in infrastructure and transit so our province becomes an even better place to live, work and raise a family.
  • Investing in our people with skills development and training – to help them find work, keep work and get ahead at work.
  • Helping Ontarians save for their golden years – so that the reward for a lifetime of hard work is a secure retirement, not a struggle for survival.

It’s a realistic and practical plan that will provide opportunity and security for the people of Ontario. It reflects the great history of accomplishment of this province and aspires to the great potential of its people.
Ontario needs a Premier who is willing to stand up to Stephen Harper and stand against him if that’s what’s needed to promote and advance Ontario’s interests. That’s what I pledge to do. Tim Hudak shares Stephen Harper’s values, his ideals and his approach.

Ontarians will have a choice between myself and Tim Hudak. I’m for jobs and I’m for growth. Tim Hudak is for cutting jobs and would put at risk the progress we’ve made in health and education.
From now through to June 12, I am asking you to stand with me and our Ontario Liberal team across the province as we share our message with the people of Ontario.

(NOW IT IS YOUR TURN. Niagara At Large encourages you to share your views on this post. A reminder that we only post comments by individuals who share their first and last name with them.)

  1. Who is the better of two evils _ Hudak or Wynne? Hudak would attract corporations to Ontario with the promise of high profits on the backs of Ontario workers subjected to low paying temporary jobs. So long as Hudak were to lead a minority government we would be continually subjected to elections _ to date he has shown neither a willingness nor the ability to work with other political parties. If Wynne forms a minority government we know that she is willing to work with the other political parties. The concern here is that other than making a commitment that we pay for cancelling gas plants and paying for the Scarborough subway her words are “blown in the wind”. For example, in the recent by election Wynne promised a full racing season for the Fort Erie. The result of this promise _ 37 racing days, less than 50% of the length f the season prior to taking out the slots. Would she dare treat Woodbine in the same manner.
The Liberals inserted items in previous budgets to win the support of the NDP. Unfortunately Wynne did not implement these items in a timely manner. Wynne attempted to lure the NDP support again but the NDP balked. Perhaps had Wynne kept her word to implement the NDP concerns she could have been trusted again but Wynne burned her bridges for support this time round

Just as we have people who will continually support Ford in Toronto, we have those who, no matter what, will continually vote either Conservative or Liberal. It is time these people voted knowingly rather than blindly. On the positive side _ they voted!

  2. My greatest fear is a win for that irresponsible Hudak. If Howarth facilitates that I think that would be the end of the road for me and the provincial NDP. I have already severed from the federal party due to their alliance with Harper on warmongering foreign policy.
Howarth’s reasoning for pulling the plug sounded contrived and not genuine.
On the other hand Wynn look absolutely happy she had someone to blame for the election call.
The disconcerting part is Hudak will have at his beck and call the resources of the radical right worldwide. Plus Harper absolutely salivating at an Ontario provincially joining the fold. The poor voter who listens to just campaign rhetoric won’t stand a chance!

  3. What we need are more educated voters and more responsible news media to do the educating. I like Niagara-at-Large as it does provide a different perspective to the election than many of the mainstream media outlets. It gets us to think and ask the right questions. I wish all news media were like that.

  4. What’s happening in 2015? That is in Welland, Talk about a recession- Welland has lost the large companies providing employment. Thus, Welland is in a RECESSION! There is a Billion Dollar Industrial Assembly plants for everything in MEXICO-with excellent quality products ie Chrysler and Magna and others increase over 30%!
Welland industry-like all of Ontario-has decreased more than 40%!
Please list the places in Welland to obtain a job that pays over $15.00 an hr. that is $600. a week-to Mexicans are happy to get $15.00 an hr. Food has increased over 10 per cent, in the last 20 months. Forty years ago factory started paying $8. an hr. and $12. on Sat. Now $11. an hr. is an increase less than 1/2 of the increase in living costs. Cars were less than $5000. in 1970 now the average is above $20,000. and most are $30,000. plus. get the picture, Cost of Living is more and wages are a lot less!!! Politicans need to do try to live on less- they make more in one day than many make in a week? Why is there such a big gap? Then they rob the hard working people by charging hotel rooms and food & drinks the rest I won’t mention- like a new outfit for everyone in the family?? Plain rides- Many Canadians have not even afforded a trip on a bus or train to get to work? After 50 years I know a lady lost her husband in order to afford a plane trip to Alberta, to see her daughter and 20 year old grand daughter. Politicans take spending our money for granted. Yet they take forever, to put into action any increased to help the working class. Approvals for Politicans to spend money should take longer. Pay first out of pocket- then wait months to be rebated back 10% to 25% or wait for a year and get no government help??? Stop Bickering and putting down other politicians! Get Solar power incentives to everyone! Get together to provide energy and stop killing us with chemicals and prescription -drugs that are more harmful than good. Children are being given doses that are too strong- doctors cross their fingers that the antibiotics don’t kill them before the infection is gone!
Work together or you should be fined! Especially acting worse than and classroom in any school. Students could teach Politicians manners and respect- learned or fail kindergarten!!!!! Disgusting behavior merits NO PAY
