– Hukak’s Tory Canadidates Refused To Reply
Submitted by the Ontario Clean Air Alliance
Electricity prices have been a big issue in the two current provincial by-elections. So we asked the candidates from the four major parties whether they were prepared to oppose Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG’s) request for a 30% price increase for nuclear power and whether they would strike a deal for lower-cost water power imports from Quebec instead.
Candidates from two parties – the NDP and Greens – said yes. The Liberal Party candidates said they would leave it to the Ontario Energy Board to decide whether to grant OPG a price increase and that “the Ontario government has laid out a plan to consider opportunities for clean imports from other jurisdictions, but only when the scenario is right for Ontario ratepayers.”
The Progressive Conservative candidates refused to reply, despite campaigning on the need to bring down electricity costs and blaming green power sources for price increases, while ignoring the fact that it is nuclear energy that is far and away the largest contributor to recent price rises. Voters in Niagara Falls and Thornhill have an interesting choice to make: Support the status quo of giant and costly nuclear projects that have a long history of running vastly over budget or support candidates interested in developing a more flexible and cost-effective system by working with our neighbours in Quebec.
The full responses to our questionnaire are available on the OCAA website.
The Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) is a coalition of individuals and approximately 90 organizations (health and environmental organizations, faith communities, municipalities, utilities, unions and corporations) that represent over six million Ontarians. We were established in 1997 to achieve the phase-out of Ontario’s dirty coal-fired power plants and to move Ontario towards a renewable electricity future.

Follows the usual Conservative process. Make millions of jobs with no plan other than lower wages and reduce or remove benefits and reduce taxes so we can’t pay or programs. Follow right to work legislation in the footsteps of US Republican style states that are all doing poorly. Bitch about the high energy cost but have no answer to the obvious question…how. Whatever happened to the real Conservatives?

Harris/ Hudak and the goon squad started the slide into oblivion and then the Liberals took over and the slide became a futile RUSH downward to the ranking of a “HAVE NOT PROVINCE”.
Gerry they never have or had an answer…They NOW talk about a hospital the Liberals are using in a hope to win the Niagara riding…………… BUT WHERE WERE THEY, HUDAK and MAVES, when the Citizens of the Southern Tier were fighting to save their hospitals from dismantling by the appointed “EMPIRE BUILDERS” the No Hospital Services (NHS).WE NEVER SEEN THEIR FACES AT ANY RALLY, MEETING or BUS TRIP to Queen’s Park. YET DOUG DRAPER was THERE WITH US………….

After retiring from the Steel Mill in Hamilton in the early 90s I moved on to build a designed house on P.E.I. at that time the debt of Ontario Hydro was in the range of about $32 Billion. The house built, I put it on the market and returned to that $32 Billion debt only to find I would be paying for that debt ever since on my monthly bill as a Citizen of Ontario. If we continue with these costly Nuclear refits instead of buying energy from Quebec this province will end up like Detroit…”BANKRUPT”
