Who are we to tell Russia or any other country how to conduct its social engineering programs? Isn’t that why the US got itself into so much trouble in the middle east however for different reasons! It’s not our place to shove our governments (not everyone’s) belief systems down the throat of a sovereign nation just because its politically correct and accepted by a certain percentage (NOT ALL) of our populations.
At the end of the day its the Russian people that have to exert pressure on their government for change in this area IF THEY WANT IT! If not, when in Rome!
As for homophobia, its not hard to understand given the flamboyance and decadence that is illustrated at events like PRIDE parades why a certain segment of ANY population takes a grim/shake your head view towards todays queer population! Lord knows if a bunch of heterosexuals were to behave in a similar manner at a similar style event ….. well we would all be put in jail wouldn’t we!? And for good reason too I might add!

I am stunned by your ignorance sir. Also thankful that the majority of people that are responding to the vile actions of Putin don’t share your ignorance. Everyone deserves to be safe and not persecuted for whom they choose to love. Period!

All I am saying is we should not be imposing our belief systems on sovereign nations. Also if I recall no one was going to persecute queers et al. They just didn’t want any demonstrations. Given the coverage delivered on things like the Gay Pride Parade I can understand why Putin would find that distasteful and would attempt to restrain that type of thing.
Don’t kid yourself! Many Canadians see the coverage of those types of events and a lot of them shake their heads. As I said before if all us straight people out there conducted ourselves in that fashion, we would be thrown in jail and for good reason!

Clearly you haven’t been watching the actual footage from Russia where LGBT people are being publicly beaten. It’s not as simple as a bit distasteful. I find the public flogging and persecution far outweighs your discomfort for their supposed conduct. It’s a human rights issue and sticking your head in the sand by saying it’s not our business is reminiscent to me of the ignorance displayed during the Hitler era. Fortunately in this day and age, we have advocates and social media to shine light on this travesty. And if all of us “straight” folk went around viciously beating people whom we discriminated against, we would be in jail and for good reason!

Really Vickie! Equating what is going on in Russia, which by the way I watch the news as much as anyone and have not witnessed anything untoward, with the holocaust and Nazi Germany. I am hopeful there are some Jews as well as other nationalities that have been TRULY persecuted who take offense to this comment.
And for the record,,,, if I could flog all those who behave in a manner I consider inappropriate during the various GAY PRIDE Festivals that occur in this country in the interest of preventing that kind of behaviour exhibited in public in front of my children, I would and I am sure there are many that see eye to eye with that opinion. Unfortunately, the reason this behaviour is tolerated in this country is because of political correctness and the possibility of appearing dare I say it….. homophobic. The name given to people who oppose seeing men giving head to each other in public or behaving in ways which I think we all know is offensive, but don’t want to say occurs. Things that if straight people did, we would be thrown in jail in THIS country!!!!!
The Difference…. I don’t give a shit about political correctness!!! That is also the beauty of this country… being able to have an opinion that differs from those who would have you believe otherwise and being able to verbalize it.
I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree!
