Forster vowed to bring petitions collected by the group to Queen’s Park.

Ontario’s Liberal government froze the province’s minimum wage at $10.25 an hour in 2010.

That leaves a full-time minimum wage earner living nearly 20 per cent below the poverty line, according to research done by the group behind the Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage.

Forster said Ontario’s NDP has shown its commitment over the last two budgets to make life affordable to ordinary Ontarians.

(A short afterword here from one “ordinary Ontarian”, Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper. I learned that only a little more than 300 people across this Niagara region signed this petition, and that is pathetic in a region where the unemployment rate is chronically above average and most of the jobs that do open up involve the lowest wages possible and little or no benefits. Apparently that is okay for the majority of Niagara residents, and that is sad for the many who are unemployed or underemployed, or for our younger people who feel there is no future for a decent paying job in this region.

By the way, why not go all the way and advocate for a living wage rather than simply adjusting a minimum wage that will always leave many of our fellow citizens struggling?)
