NIAGARA REGION, Oct. 18, 2013 – In support of Waste Reduction Week, Oct. 21 – 27, Niagara Region is giving residents the chance to find out what happens to all the waste materials that are collected at the curb each week.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. the Region will offer a free guided tour of the Niagara Road 12 landfill in West Lincoln highlighting the technologies and operations of a modern engineered landfill. A bus will depart Niagara Region Headquarters at 10 a.m. and will return to Headquarters at noon. Niagara Region Headquarters is located at 2201 St. David’s Rd. in Thorold. Residents interested in joining the tour at Niagara Road 12 can meet the tour at the site, 7015 Concession Rd. 7, West Lincoln, at 10:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. the Region will offer a free 30-minute guided tour of the Recycling Centre located at 4935 Kent Ave. in Niagara Falls. For safety reasons, tours are restricted to individuals 10 years of age and older. Close-toed shoes and long pants are mandatory.
Reservations are required for both tours and space is limited. Spaces can be reserved by calling the Region’s Waste Info-Line at 905-356-4141 or 1-800-594-5542 Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Residents can also visit a Waste Management Services booth at the Seaway Mall on Friday, Oct. 25 to learn about waste reduction in Niagara.
Beginning on Waste Reduction Week and until Nov. 9, residents who donate reusable items at the Humberstone Reusable Goods Drop-off located at the Humberstone landfill may enter a draw to win a $50 Seaway Mall gift card.
