A Comment from Preston Haskell
The Niagara Health Coalition has held 5 town hall meetings throughout Niagara regarding the quality of health care in our hospitals including the C Difficile and other serious infections plaguing the Niagara Health System.
At each and every meeting the local politicians and health care authorities were invited.
For the most part there was a fairly good turnout of MPP’s, Mayors and Councillors present to hear, speak and mingle with concerned citizens and those who have lost love ones.
The exception was St. Catharines were only Councillor Len Stack attended and ‘got an ear full’.
Councillor Stack stated “My heart goes out to all those families who had to endure such severe abuse in a place where you would normally think you’re safe.”
With dozens of deaths in the St. Catharines General Hospital would you not expect St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan would be in attendance? How about the 11 missing councillors? Even our Liberal MPP for St. Catharines Jim Bradley was a no show!
These missing politicians sent their regrets that they had other engagements!
What other engagements could be more imperative than so many deaths of their constituents in their St. Catharines General Hospital?
Those who did attend heard alarming stories that elicited shock, tears and anger.

I think it’s time St. Catharines took a good look at what is happening….. it astounded me that a lady that sat beside me at the mtg. in Thorold didn’t know what the NO stood for on my “Yellow Shirt” & was asking about it…. I told her we wished St. Catharines well & hoped the hospital was a success… she said she & many others in St.C.’s were against the location of the hospital especially since it went through one of the busiest sections of
the city & would need an added expense of a new highway to reach. She said she & others couldn’t understand the location & gave an example of other properties that would be more appropriate …. is this lack of info because the St.C.’s newspapers don’t allow the comments from the other communities through? How after all the efforts of others are the St. C.’s people still in the dark as to what is happening ? St. C.’s is going to end up with a giant influx of people since there will be “no room in the inn” because it is impossible to fit Fort Erie, N.F.’s & Pt. Col. as well as some from Wld into one facility……St.Cath.’s Councillors & leaders need to take a good look at what’s happening & reconfigure the system.

When it comes to discussing Niagara Hospitals and Health Care, Liberal MPP Bradley goes missing in action. He avoided a health care rally at his office, He neglected to attend a meeting he was invited to with Minister Matthews and the Mayors of Niagara. He avoids any comment of the crisis created by the Hospital Improvement Plan. I read it so often, I was beginning to think his name is Couldnotbereached Bradley

For Sue Salzer:
As an elected government MPP and member of the McGuinty cabinet, Jim Bradley has to keep out of sight! He and almost all other Liberal MPPs are too busy performing what I refer to as “political fellatio” to stay in the premier’s good books.
It happens all the time! A local candidate promises all kinds of things to deal with local issues – but once elected, they are expected to “toe-the-line” with whatever the party leader says. That’s why Kim Craitor is such a refreshing change – he will stand up for his constituents!
NOTE TO DOUG: if political fellatio is not acceptible, please figure out some other term that is .. thanks Will
