A Press Release from The Niagara District Council of Women
On Wednesday November 16th @ 7:30 p.m. The Niagara District Council of Women (NDCW) will hold a public zoom meeting regarding :
Niagara, Ontario – Poverty’s impacts on Niagara residents and the potential for local and region-wide programs and advocacy to make a positive difference in these difficult times and the years ahead?”
Across the country, Canadians living in poverty are bearing the brunt of the steeply rising costs of food, rent, basic necessities such as heating, medical supplies and school and work equipment.
The Niagara situation is no different , and as the press sounds the alarm with reports of the growing crisis of rental evictions , dramatic increase in food bank use and tent homes in parks, Niagara individuals, social service agencies, citizen groups, elected municipal advocacy and action voices are speaking out and planning for a better road ahead.
The meeting will feature panellists Lori Watson Director of Regional Niagara Social Assistance and and Employment Opportunities ; Elizabeth Zimmerman, Executive Director YWCA Niagara , Laura Ip, St. Catharines Regional Councillor, Susan Venditti, Community activist and Laura Dumas, Executive Director Start Me Up Niagara.
