Niagara Falls, Ontario – In honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, Niagara Parks and the City of Niagara Falls will host a formal celebration to commemorate the Queen’s 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
On Saturday, June 4 at 11 a.m., the Niagara Parks Police Honour Guard and Niagara Regional Police Pipe and Drum Corps will march with attending dignitaries through Queen Victoria Park and gather at the foot of the King George VI statue, overlooking Niagara Falls.
Special remarks will be provided by Niagara Parks Chair April Jeffs, City of Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati, Gimaa Stacey Laforme, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and Niagara Falls Historian Sherman Zavitz, who will provide insight on the connection between Niagara Parks and royalty.
Formal remarks will be followed by a ceremonial tree planting and a complimentary slice of cake for all in attendance. Available seating on-site will be limited and those attending the ceremony are welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at Queen Victoria Park Restaurant, South Terrace.
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board has also scheduled special tribute illuminations happening nightly from June 2 to 5, with Niagara Falls to be illuminated in regal purple.
