“In the face of alarming (Ontario) Science Table data that shows the fourth wave of COVID-19 rising, Doug Ford’s decision to prorogue the legislature for three weeks is an unprecedented abdication of responsibility during a crisis.” – Ontario NDP Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath
A Commentary by Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper Posted September 3rd, 2021 on Niagara At Large
You may not excuse my tone or the use of the word ‘fascist’ here to describe Ontario Doug Ford and one of his government’s latest move, and that is okay.
I am not going to apologize for what some may view as an offensive tone for the following reason.
Things are getting so dangerous in Ontario with Doug Ford at the helm, I don’t care about offensive words, and I don’t think you should care either.
Indeed, nothing could be more obscene than the way Ontario Premier Doug Ford is abandoning the citizens of this province right now.
I have a young daughter who is trying to live and make her way in our province of Ontario, and we have this moron in the Premier’s Office who behaves as if he could barely give a damn about her future and the future of millions of other younger people with his deplorable record on climate change, this pandemic and a host of other issues.
And now we learn today that like Stephen Harper, another right-wing radical we still had for a Prime Minister in Canada six or seven years ago, this creep in Ontario wants to prorogue our Queen’s Park legislature for some baseless political reasons.
Ford wants to keep our Ontario legislature closed until this coming October, seemingly because there is a federal election now on, and even though there is no other example in recent, recorded history where a provincial government shut down democracy at the provincial legislative level due to a federal election.
And this fascist idiot of a premier we have is doing it while the rest of us are as concerned and stressed out as we should be about a Fourth Wave of the COVID-19 taking hold and possibly causing more suffering and death, not to mention what it might do to what is left of our local businesses and economies.
It’s too bad that we, the people, cannot impeach a Premier now and turf him out of office because this morally bankrupt excuse for a leader certainly deserves it. What an abdication of leadership this is on the Ford government’s part. What a desertion it is to a government’s responsibility to protect its citizens. This Ford government and everyone in it has got to go. Remember this next spring when we have a provincial election.
Now here is a Statement about Ford’s disgusting decision to prorogue the Ontario legislature from the province’s NDP Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath –
A Statement from Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement in response to the Ford government’s decision to prorogue the legislature:
“In the face of alarming Science Table data that shows the fourth wave of COVID-19 rising, Doug Ford’s decision to prorogue the legislature for three weeks is an unprecedented abdication of responsibility during a crisis. It’s bad enough that Doug Ford has gone into hiding for over a month, now he is choosing to hide his entire government. Whether you are a parent, student or educator worried about a safe September, a small business or worker hanging on during a precarious recovery, or a health care worker on the frontlines of the fight against the fourth wave, Doug Ford has chosen once again to leave everyday Ontarians on their own.”
Ontario Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca also issued the following statement –
FORD SUSPENDS THE LEGISLATURE DURING A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS
TORONTO – Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca issued the following statement:
“Ontario is in a fourth wave with cases rising every day, and Doug Ford just announced he will shut down the legislature until October so that he can continue to avoid responsibility.
Everyone knows that Doug Ford has been hiding for the past two months. He needs to go back to work now in order to deliver a real vaccine certificate, a better plan to reopen our schools and to help families get through this lingering public health crisis.
As the father of two daughters in publicly funded schools, one who is too young to be vaccinated, I cannot accept Doug Ford walking away from his duty. Political cowardice will not get us through the fourth wave, and I’m deeply disappointed in Doug Ford’s decision to abdicate his responsibility.
