This deer has made its home in Waverly Woods – now a target of predatory development in Fort Erie. How many homes will be left for wildlife like this if Niagara Regional Council passes a weak Official Plan for our future?
“The Region staff is recommending to council that they choose option 3B for a Natural Heritage System. This option is totally in favour of development. It means Niagara will look like Mississauga in a few short years.” Community Voices of Fort Erie, a citizens group fighting to keep urban sprawl out of Save Waverly
A Call-Out to all Niagara citizens from Community Voices of Fort Erie
Posted May 12th, 2021 on Niagara At Large
Today, Wednesday May 12, 2021 (at 1 p.m.) the Planning and Economic Development Committee will be holding a meeting about the upcoming new Official Plan.
There will be several important residents speaking about the issues and problems with this official plan. Watch for the live stream on https://www.niagararegion.ca/government/council/ starting a 1 p.m.

Will ever more of the low-density urban sprawl on the bottom half of this photo pave over ever more of the green lands above?
The region staff is recommending to council that they choose option 3B for a Natural Heritage System. This option is totally in favour of development. It means Niagara will look like Mississauga in a few short years.
And citizens won’t be able to have any further input on development.
It is critical if you don’t want this it happen that you contact your Niagara region representatives on council https://www.niagararegion.ca/government/council/profiles/default.aspx and let them know you want Option 3C+.

The days of Provincially Signficant Wetlands wetlands like this one in Thundering Waters Forest in Niagara Falls, Ontario could be numbered if the Region does not approve strong enough rules to protect what is left of our natural heritage and water resources. Photo by Lori Monroe
Also ask for option 2C for the equally important Water Resource System to keep our water clean. Call them, write them, zoom with them. Ask for a reply. They need to know what the community really wants. This is the only way to stop the developers from controlling our communities.

In spite of excellent presentations from knowledgeable experts, big surprise, they went for the plan more favorable to developers. What a sham the whole procedure was.
