‘A Brief Note from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper
Posted January 1st, 2021 on Niagara At Large
For those of you who work through the more celebratory moments of New Year’s to feel a few misty and mellow ones too, as I tend to do, a song came to mind for me that, as old as it is and now going back more than 50 years to some of the most volatile years of the 1960s, strikes a chord for these times.
The song, written by the legendary composing team Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and performed by the equally legendary singer Dionne Warwick, was released in 1967 with the ongoing carnage of the War in Vietnam in mind.
Yet now, for this listener anyway, it resonates again as we continue – even as the clock struck midnight to a New Year we all hope will bring sunshine again – to struggle together through the nightmare of this seemingly relentless, unforgiving pandemic.

And let us all hope for a better 2021 for us all.
