St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik schedules council discussion on mandatory mask wearing
Niagara, Ontario – St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik has requested a special meeting of City Council, scheduled to take place on Monday, July 6, at 4:30 p.m., to discuss the possibility of a temporary by-law that would require residents to wear masks, or face coverings, in inside spaces in which members of the public are within close proximity, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This will be the only issue on the agenda for this meeting.
“We have a handle on COVID-19 transmission, but the virus is not gone. As we’ve seen an influx of visitors from outside of our City, masks can assist us in our efforts to protect our community from a transmission source beyond our borders,” said Mayor Sendzik.
“This is not about limiting personal freedoms. It’s about stopping the spread of COVID-19, and getting to stage 3 of the province’s reopening framework so we can open our economy even more, and more individuals can return to work.”

Yes! In times past if a diseased person was found in a home, a quarantine sign went up on the door: for measles, chickenpox, polio, etc. Now we are asked to self-quarantine, to care enough for others to forebear the wearing of a mask and keeping a safe social distance. Too many are unwilling to show that level of concern and caring for others. It is time to impose it upon those so disrespectful of others as to put them at risk of catching what could well prove a virus that leads to death!
